Nathalie L. Dias
11182009_124544_0.jpgSelectperson Nathalie L. Dias is a lifetime resident of the Town of Dartmouth.  Mrs. Dias retired from the Office of the Dartmouth Director of Budget and Finance in December of 2003.  Mrs. Dias is married to the former Dartmouth Harbormaster Arthur F. Dias.  During her earlier years of employment she worked in the office of the Board of Selectmen, Building and Wire, Board of Appeals and as a Floater in the offices of the Town Clerk and Board of Health.

All of this experience has given her the knowledge of the town procedures and the ability to make the best decisions in the best interest of the Town of Dartmouth.  She has been vocal in regard to the increasing of abatements for the elderly, seeking alternatives to improve town wide purchasing and balancing the budget.

Because of her knowledge and her desire to assist taxpayers, Selectperson Dias, immediately upon her election, initiated the program to be more accessible to the residents of Dartmouth by holding office hours at the Town Hall in Room 313.  She invites any person to meet privately with her on the second Tuesday of every month between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. at which time they can air their views, ask their questions or seek assistance.

Mrs. Dias is a town meeting member and has served in that capacity for approximately thirty years.  Presently she is serving as Chairperson for the Select Board, a member of the Wind Energy Committee, a member of the Affordable Housing Committee, the Health Advisory Committee, Worker's Compensation Board and the Sister City Delegation Committee of which she has served as co-chairperson for seven years.

She was a member of the Democratic Town Committee for approximately fourteen years, where she served as Treasurer for one year, a member of the Quinn Elementary School Naming Committee, St. Mary's Guild and Executive Board, Junior Women's Club, Dartmouth School Music Association and Dartmouth Alumni Association.

Change is never easy to accept or understand; nor is it comfortable to those who do it.  Selectperson Dias feels long term members on any appointed commission, committee or board should not be automatically re-appointed.  Dartmouth is growing and times are changing.  The 30 and 50 year old person has a lot to contribute to Dartmouth.  Let's give them a chance and listen to them also.

During her campaign, Mrs. Dias repeatedly stated, "Although, the Latin inscription on our Town Seal, "Utile Dulci" sounds very distinguished, she prefers the simple English translation "Service through kindness and peaceful means."
