2023 Town Census Information

The 2023 Census Forms were mailed to each household at the beginning of January and residents are urged to review, update, sign and return them as soon as possible. Even if there are no changes, they must be returned. All occupants, including children, should be listed, although information obtained for residents under age 17 remains confidential.

Completed forms can be mailed to Town Clerk, 400 Slocum Road, Dartmouth, MA 02747 or put into the drop box outside the Town Office Building. An envelope has been included with the census for your convenience.

Any resident who did not receive a census form, or who might need another one, should call Town Clerk's office at 508-910-1800 or you may download a Blank Census Form (PDF).

The Town census is important for many reasons. First and foremost, it establishes legal residence for voting privileges and town benefits. It is also the vehicle by which annual street lists are printed for distribution to police, fire and medical personnel. It is the census figures that are used to determine grants or to receive state and federal reimbursements and aide. School enrollments are also based on town census.

Completing this form does not register you as a voter, but failure to answer this annual census shall result in a voter's name being removed from the active voters list and may result in removal from the voter registration rolls (MGL c51,s4).

The census envelope contains a warning (as directed by Mass. General Law) that "failure to respond to the census mailing for two consecutive years will result in removal from the active voting list". By answering the census you help your community by providing valuable demographic information.

The Annual Street List of Residents is published in late spring and is available in the Town Clerk's office for a fee of $20.

Please make sure you and your family are counted!
