SRTA to begin free bus service in January

The Southeastern Regional Transit Authority (SRTA) will remove all bus fares starting on January 1, 2024, and lasting through June 30, 2024. This free bus fare comes as part of the "Try Transit" Program across the southeast region.

This initiative also comes with a Sunday bus service, which has not been available in years. The Sunday service will mirror the current Saturday schedule and is expected to begin at the end of January and last through the end of June. The SRTA is hopeful that the program will be successful and continue after June ends.

'“Try Transit” is an excellent opportunity for new riders to see if public transportation can work for their daily lives, without the pressure of learning how to access the system," said a press release from SRTA. "Additionally, the program will provide financial relief for our existing customers in challenging times."

These two programs are funded through State grants and budget increases.
