The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be providing analytical and sampling support to MassDEP during its continued residential sampling activities planned for the Bliss Corner Neighborhood in 2020. The EPA mobile laboratory will be used to provide metals and PCBs analysis to the project management team.
EPA sampling teams will collect soil samples from residential properties. As with every EPA sampling and remediation project, the safety of workers and the residents will be the highest priority. EPA will include all appropriate measures, including wearing of masks and social distancing, to ensure protective measures.
NEXT STEPS/WHAT TO EXPECT
If you are on the MassDEP list of homes requesting sampling, EPA and MassDEP will coordinate with you for access and sampling dates and times. EPA and MassDEP are hopeful to conduct the next round of sampling in the end of June, or early July 2020. Work will be conducted from 8AM to 5PM. The sampling of any individual property should take several hours, and the entire project should last around two weeks. You can anticipate sampling teams of three to four personnel with equipment and wearing protective clothing. No heavy equipment will be used during this phase.
